WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration is considering reversing long-standing policy to make it easier to deport U.S. legal permanent residents who have used public benefits, part of an effort to restrict immigration by low-income people.
I would not apply this retroactively, but why are immigrants eligible for benefits at all? Nobody immigrating to this country should be getting Medicaid, SSDI, food stamps, Section 8 housing, free lunches for their kids, etc., etc. for at least 10 years after entry. We want people who will contribute to America - and that starts with being capable of supporting themselves and their families.
Exemption: Any immigrant who joins the military and serves in active-duty combat will get benefits.
I think we should be going after the Illegal immigrants first not the Legal ones. I wonder how the Left will respond to this since they only seem to care about illegal ones?
If someone has immigrated Legally and has fallen on tough times then we should help them but if they are just another mooch that is taking advantage of our generosity then their case should be looked at and if it is found that they are stealing from the system then guess what you just wore out your welcome and should be sent packing.
Fraud is fraud and stealing from the public trough should have equal penalties for citizens and non citizens alike.

Democrats will never go for that. Illegals are one of their protected class.
