"Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas is one of the newest co-sponsors of the English Language Unity Act in the United States House of Representatives in the 116th Congress.
The bill, also known as H.R. 997, had 5 original co-sponsors.
H.R. 997 designates English as the nation’s official language of governmental operations and establishes a uniform language requirement for the citizen naturalization process".
Long overdue!
And the best part:
"The passage of official English legislation in H.R. 997 and S. 678 will save Americans billions of dollars in current, government-mandated translation and interpretation costs and will encourage cultural and linguistic assimilation by new arrivals to our nation.
A Rasmussen Reports poll sponsored by ProEnglish showed that 81% of Americans believe that English should be the official language of the United States".
I support this only because it will chew up time with all the deliberating, spouting of platitudes both pro/con, voting on, signing off on, etc. that might otherwise be spent looking for creative ways to rob us.
Why on earth does anyone else care what language the govts endless and pointless forms are printed in? They are mostly in gibberish(a.k. govt speak) anyway.
Meh. I'm indifferent. Most people here speak English anyway.
Even in countries where there is an official language, accommodations are made if there are enough of a given minority who have immigrated there and need assistance in their native language, so this isn't going to FORCE anyone to quit speaking Spanish or Arabic or Chinese or whatever they intended with this bill.
Totally fine with them wasting some time on it.
