^ I think the above column illustrates the position of the Chinese in this trade ware pretty readily. Just read those tweets.

Trump is in way over his head.
The tweets indicate that China wants to continue doing things just as they were done before.

The Chinese must have been horrified when Hillary lost.

The office, by extension whomever holds the office at the moment. I do not idolize politicians, instead seeing them for who they are, crass, power craven, manipulators. Still, there has to be someone at the helm, so to speak.

So, we all have to choose a side, do what we can to have our voices heard; all the while respecting the country's leadership offices. Otherwise, we have facism, anarchy, chaos... - pick your version of the poison of a society that not longer functions nor has any freedom.

Once you recognize that politicians are no different than mafiaso, it all becomes much clearer.

"A decade ago, for instance, Chinese consumers bought 71 percent of the products manufactured in China, according to the McKinsey Global Institute. Today, the Chinese buy 85 percent of what they produce — and their economy is three times larger"

I'm sure they are quaking in their boots at Orange mans attempt to tweet them into submission. It's hard to "make a deal" when you aren't in any position to do so.

Why aren't democrats listening to the want-a-be Presidents like Sleepy Creepy Joe Biden ?

He says, China isn't competition for the US.

Biden says a lot of things he regrets and has to walk back on. At least he walks back...

Trump trade war rests on a single equation:

Higher prices = more things made in America

That is actually false. Because there is no longer manufacturing supply chains in the Rust Belt. Higher prices simply means inflation -- everything in Walmart will still be made in China but just cost more. Tariff is import tax that will be passed onto consumers as higher prices through artificial inflation. If it's so bad, why doesn't China like it? Because, trade is mutually beneficial. Attacking China through attacking self first with inflation is this trade war.

No, China is not dependent on trade with the US, but the US is dependent on everything made in China.

That isn’t the point at all.

The point is that Chinese intransigence is something the American consumer should not have to account for. Because that’s for whom the cost burden will be felt most acutely.

Goldman Sachs tells its investors today that the cost of Trump's trade war has fallen almost entirely on US businesses and consumers. The cost to them is greater than previously thought. Not only have Chinese not cut prices, but other nations have raised prices in the absence of Chinese competition. GS predicts a 0.4% hit to GDP and higher than that if the stock market gets rattled over it.
