Listing prices in television ads is useless because it doesn't address the core problem of why drug prices are so high to begin with. It's like blaming immigrants who cross the border for the jobs that are being offered instead of blaming the root cause--the employers who hire them. That's merely addressing the effects and not the cause.

How about Trump works with Congress to actually address the problem at its core? Nah, too much work, and it might **** off big pharma. Can't have that.

It would’ve been a step in the right direction.

The problem is a lot of these ads are for pills you don’t actually need. These are usually new drugs that end up being pulled a few years later once folks realize they don’t like pooping weird fluids

The ruling is "less government." It is a good ruling if for no other reason.

Are there other products that must show their prices in advertisements? I see all manner of commercials hawking all manner of products and services, and I seldom see actual price the consumer will pay during any of those presentations. Why are pharmaceuticals being singled out?

And even if they list their prices, the numerous protectionist laws that artificially inflate those prices aren't going anywhere. Go check the lobbying and campaign spending by the top 5 in Big Pharma...and you'll see that Orange_Man's little EO would be utterly insignificant in any way other than political optics.

Exactly.

Go look at how Big Pharma spends their lobbying and campaign/PAC donation money. ALL OF CONGRESS, BOTH PARTIES have no interest in biting that particular hands that feeds. Pfizer flew Romney around on their jet during campaign 2012, and they still gave more to Obama in that same year. Pay both because one of them will win, and you gotta have friends. I know you reflexively go to "Orange_Man_Bad" to diagnose any issue, but when it comes to pharma, go all the way back to 1920s for the start of government helping them build monopolies.

What is wrong with the brain function of a portion of the population?

After meeting with pharma lobbyists, Trump drops promise to negotiate drug prices
The new plan is tax cuts and deregulation.

“Pharma has a lot of lobbies, a lot of lobbyists and a lot of power. And there’s very little bidding on drugs,” he said at a press conference at Trump Tower in Manhattan. “We’re the largest buyer of drugs in the world, and yet we don’t bid properly.”

Today he apparently changed his mind. According to Herb Jackson, the designated pool reporter for the day, Trump’s new policy on prescription drugs is that drug companies should get tax cuts and deregulation (emphasis added):

Life is funny.

One of the things Trump did right was requiring posted pricing.

Of course our drug and hospital cartels will fight this one forever... AND they own congress.

He dropped that ball on the drug pricing thing a long time ago. This was a useless red herring.

How is announcing prices bringing costs down?

Here is the truth of it...

Just how gullible are Trump cheerleaders?

I shared this in another thread (this one may get merged with it...we'll see).

A couple of years ago my husband had surgery. He was prescribed an ice machine by his dr. The company that gave him the machine charged $1,000 for this machine. You can purchase the exact same machine for $525 from online.

That in itself is a good reason to show their prices so insurance companies and people in general can see how much they are being price gouged.
