I don't agree with the narcissist kid, but freedom of speech.

Quote:
A high school student’s mixed media artwork depicting a police officer as a pig was pulled from public viewing just days before its would-be debut at a Cincinnati art fair on May 5 after some community members complained.

The piece — which features a drawing of a pig dressed as a police officer in the foreground and a collage of newspaper clippings related to police brutality in the background — was on display at the Madeira Municipal Building. There, a local named Kellie Gantzer Williams spotted the portrait, which was done by an unidentified Madeira High School student, and reported it to Madeira Schools superintendent Kenji Matsudo.

Opinion:
It should have never been approved in our educational system.
The high school staff needs to be revamped. What Idiots approved this?
Still dealing with Children ...not students.
The brain is not fully developed until the age of 26.
Goes to show what a failure the educational system has become.

This is a perfect example why the voting age should be raised to 26....

LOL Who are "they" going to sue? The school? This had nothing to do with "freedom of speech" (or, expression) in school, which is not, BTW, absolute there, anyway.

The art fair directors and coordinators have every right to decide which artwork will be exhibited at the fair (and this kid's will not be).

As for its appearance at the municipal hall, a government building, every piece of artwork is not required to be displayed. As is usually the case, someone makes that decision, and chooses a certain number. The fact that the municipal building also houses the city's police department might also be viewed as a good reason not to have displayed this piece of art there.

That said, the assignment was that students visually depict news accounts of interest to them, and that's exactly what this kid did. It doesn't follow, though, that it's required to be displayed anywhere. Let the teacher display it in his classroom--or not.

So, yeah. Good luck with that suit.

It is an art fair. The organizer decides the policies. My guess is that they would ban anything controversial. Can't really blame them.

Just like many public schools will not allow controversial T shirts. It is just their policy. Good luck with the lawsuit. lol

Freedom of speech means a local government must display some kid's artwork that people hate in the municipal building?

a bit off topic: That is one ugly piece of garbage. Nothing arty about it.

It does. And it's not protected under "freedom of speech". Really now, you should educate yourself since your school didn't.

If pig is a bad thing, or calling someone pig is insulting then why do you eat pig?

“You are what you eat”, no?

Freedom of speech should prevail - let the kid express his thoughts freely.
But I have a feeling that it was removed because the kid could be of an African American origin.
