Well, it sure didn't turn out to be what she had in mind. But once you turn something loose in the public arena, you lose control over it.

That's just what happens to commemorative holidays in a consumerist society. It's happened to all of them.

As an American, I spend a lot of time worried about what random schools in Australia might choose to do. Don't like it? Don't send your kids there.

Yes, because there is apparently a War on Mother's Day. SMH

I have news for you. You can acknowledge your mother anytime you darn well please, no need to wait to do it once a year. I'm sorry this has somehow escaped you, I hope you feel released from the tyranny of only being allowed to acknowledge your mother on a specific day every year.
The school is not allowing recognition of Mother's Day, that's who is stopping it. I don't know about you but when I was a kid, it was in school where we were able to make simple gifts for Mother's Day, gifts that we wouldn't have had to give otherwise.

An Australian school renamed Mother's Day, calling it “Acknowledgment Day” as the principal stated, “We no longer subscribe to a binary world.”

Why do you care what happens in Australia?

Well, I'm sorry that you never learned to take a piece of paper, fold it in half, and write on it with a crayon. Your school must have been really pathetic.

Australia does what’s best for Australia. That’s really none of our concern.
