The former Aussie Prime Minister Bob Hawke has died.
He was once world-record beer drinker for skulling a yard of ale (2.5 pints of beer ) in 11 seconds.

After his retirement he happily downed a pint in one whenever it was handed to him.

Now that is what I call a real politician.

Bob Hawke was a legend, and he will be sorely missed. Not a perfect person but certainly a real one. I’ll never forget him telling Aussies to take the day off when we won the America’s Cup for the first time in a hundred or so years. Sad day in Oz, we’ve lost our larrikin.

As you say,not the finished article but a proud Australian to his core who loved his country and never ran it down.
If only some of the mealy-mouthed,second-raters who pose as politicians these days had the same passion and pride in their country.
I shall raise a toast to him down the pub tonight.
