I would cautiously support such a law. The power dynamic between student and teacher and the possibility for quid-pro-quo of trading sex for better grades. Even if there is nothing shady going on, it's an unequal relationship. If your 18 year old student has you all hot and bothered and the feeling is mutual then keep your pants on and wait till they're not your student anymore.
A teacher holds a position of authority over a student, therefore the legal entity over the teacher has a right to ban relationships between a student and teacher.
It's honestly not that hard to comprehend the ramifications of such relationships. Just let the southern red states have open sexual relationships, like most do with 16 year old's or younger.

Wouldnt the same hold true for college student and professor relationships as well?
If its not entirely about the age thing and its more 'someone in an authority position over the other', then the law should apply to college as well.

Yes that's true. College professors shouldn't be screwing their students. Again, keep your pants on and wait till they're not your student. I believe that having sex with your students was a fireable offense at most colleges and universities until pretty recently, and that was precisely the reasoning behind the rule.
I do say that I would cautiously support such a law because I don't like the idea of telling people how to live their lives. I don't like the idea of telling people who they can or can't love. I just think that the power dynamic between student and teacher makes the relationship problematic. I'm not saying you can never have a romantic relationship with a former student. I'm saying don't do it while they're your student.
In mental health, several states have banned sexual relationships between therapist and client for similar reasons. There is even a manditory waiting period after the therapy has ended before a relationship between formers cam be acceptable
I say heave.... ho.... to teachers and professors and say hello to men and women of the cloth.
