(CNN)Sen. Kamala Harris on Wednesday will announce that, if she is elected president, she will ban the importation of all AR-15 style assault weapons by executive action if Congress fails to act in the first 100 days of her administration.
Harris will make the announcement at a campaign stop in New Hampshire, according to a senior campaign official.
She apparently is too ignorant to know that AR-15s are made in this country-and that the import of "assault weapons" has been banned for 30 years (see Bush assault weapons import ban). But that works-her supporters are typically even more ignorant.

Agreed- thank God they are all made in America.
If we imported too many, America would probably tip over and sink.
1. AR15 is NOT an assault weapon..... she just PROVED that she does not have a brain
2. although 'some' foreign manufacturers do make an ar15 platform and import them (for example: Heckler and Koch (German) makes the HK146N; and Sig 516 (Sig is a german/swiss company)) most are made by American companies and manufactured in the USA
all she has done is proved that she is another fascist liberal who does not use her brain, only does what her handlers tell her to do

Gotta say, this has always bugged me. Not folks calling AR's "assault weapons", but the notion from many pro gun folks that someone calling an AR an "assault weapon" "does not have a brain". It reminds me a lot of folks ranting when someone incorrectly uses the word "font" when they are really referring to a "typeface" (which is the significant majority of people) or when folks say "wifi" when they really mean "the internet". Are they technically wrong, yes, they are. Should they be corrected, generally yes (though a lost cause on the whole font/face thing). Should they be ridiculed, I personally would say not. I think it makes pro gun folks sound petty and really does nothing to advance the notion that not all pro gun folks are frothing at the mouth bullies who are praying for WROL. Again, just my pet peeve, I'm sure many will disagree.

I believe 516's sold in the US are made in the US (Exeter), so in theory would not be affected by any import ban.

Some might argue that she did that way before this.

Blame the firearms media for coining the term "Assault Weapons" and promoting them heavily in the magazines, starting in the late 70s. Like it or not, "Assault Weapon" refers to AR-15s as well as M-16s in the vernacular. Deal with it.

No matter who coined the term it is incorrect and is at this point predominantly used by gun control advocates to conjure up an image to advance a political agenda. It will be challenged every time............
Deal with it.

Comparing an AR15 to a military issue M16 and using the umbrella term of "assault weapon" to describe both is kind of like comparing a 4 cylinder MGB (a british car that was big in the 60's-70's) to a Big V8 Corvette and calling them both "sports cars".

There is a lot of difference between the 2.
I don't think I would have wanted an AR 15 in Vietnam.
