John Wayne and his films are an American treasure; if they become "toxic" to the PC crowd, then the America I know, will have disappeared! I guess the Left wants everyone to watch preverted movies like Brokeback Mountain instead of Rio Bravo.

Two years ago, a Memphis theater nixed a screening of the 1939 classic “Gone with the Wind” because of its “insensitive” content.

It is amazing that they see themselves as "progressives", when in fact they are just like the Taliban, destroying any "offensive" icons or material that does not suit their religion.
Liberalism is a greater threat to American liberty than were the Germans or Japanese in WW2.
When my kids were little, I tried to get a video of Disney's "Song of the South"- I had to get a copy from Japan. Ignoring and destroying history (gee.........just like Stalin wanted) is insane. It is good for people to know what the past was like so that we can learn from their mistakes.
Some libraries have thrown out or burned the book "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". It's all part of politicians' efforts to gain votes by pretending black people have been somehow injured by the printed word.

Black people have been hurt by printed word - badly. All the same, deliberately erasing literature or art that once was mainstream but now is in conflict with current sensibilities destroys primary evidence of history. That is wrong.

I was just in a discussion over on the movies board about this, someone else was trying to say that if the movie 'Showgirls' was released today, it would still be an NC17 or even an R rated movie!
'Showgirls' came out in 1995...that was over 20 yrs ago!
Im sorry to say, (even though society may be more PC today), what was 'R rated material' in 1995, would definitely not still be R rated material, some 20 yrs later, the public acclimates to this kind of stuff over time, kind of like how in the past, what was 'hard core' then...would be tame by todays standards.

We are at war with Eastasia. We are not at war with Eurasia. We have always been at war with Eastasia.

John Wayne was a draft dodger. His "patriotism" was the result of his guilt over having not served. He was also an avowed white supremacist and a homophobe, per his interview with Playboy. He was an actor who essentially played himself over and over in vehicle movies written strictly for money, with no social or historical significance. And yes, "Brokeback Mountain" was socially significant in contrast with a Wayne movie.
If you want westerns, pick up a copy of the miniseries "Centennial" from the 70s, "Texas", or "Lonesome Dove". They add realism to entertainment, and a much truer picture of society in bygone days.

"Huckleberry Finn" is the least racist book in the English language, and no library ever threw it out. The objection has been that it is racist because Twain used the language of his day honestly. When Huck decides he'd rather go to hell than turn his friend in for being a runaway slave, there is not a leg left to support that argument.

Lol.
Which library is that?
I swear, the right fear mongerers are as bad as the lefties. Maybe worse.
