As recently as 2013. My, my, how things do evolve in 6 short years. Catty she is, but Speaker Pelosi is as political and hypocritical as a career politician can come.
Quote:
But it wasn’t long ago that she was offering fulsome praise for a another immigration bill that also would have implemented a merit-based system for immigration.
In fact, when the Senate passed that bill in 2013 — with every single Democratic senator voting aye — she said the bill would “reaffirm our values, advance our ideals, and honor our history as a nation of immigrants,” and that “the Senate moved our country one step closer to achieving commonsense reform that reflects our heritage and makes America more American.”
But right there in that bill, there’s a section under the heading “Future Immigration,” which explains how the bill “Establishes a merit-based and points immigrant admissions system.” That system would award points to potential immigrants based on education, employment, and other characteristics, and grant visas to those with higher scores.
Quote:
Pelosi not only praised the Senate bill, she also urged Democrats in the House to vote for virtually identical legislation introduced in that chamber.
The legislation never passed, largely because it mainly focused on granting amnesty to millions already in the country, and because the provisions on border security had more holes than the southern border.
Well, I don't know kids. Why don't one of you do an objective comparsion of the two bills, then we'll see where the puff and stuff is. Oh, and hypocrisy has no requirement to be exactly the same. It is la resistance cattiness that makes for the hypocrisy. I haven't seen place one where the Speaker has done an - exactly - comparison, before announcing opposition, have you?

You're the one making the claim she's being hypocritical, so it's on you to actually prove what you say, not on others to disprove it.
Of course that will never happen but we all know the reality.

Oh come on....either you are playing us or naive.
Two different bills can contain principle components that are similar but have enough other components to make them completely different.
That's the swampy, political game they play with us voters.
Oh the Republicans won't pas this bill that is all about X -- when the truth is the Republicans won't pass the billl because there are hidden nuggets that aren't acceptable.
And the same with the Democrats.
I have not heard Pelosi address the merit system in a negative way.
The immigration bill has lots of components to it and her object may be to some of those.
Unless you can prove it is specifically the merit based issue she has flipped on - there is no discussion.
[quote=EastwardBound;55201674]If she's not opposed to a merit-based system, then I'm sure she will have no problem reducing the number of family visas, right?
Arbitrarily reduce the number of visas seems kind of random.
There should be other criteria to determine if a family member should be given a visa or resident status. It should be based on the relationship, circumstance and financial stability of those requesting a visa for a family member.
And let's just bring it back to the original post.
The question was what we thought about Pelosi flipping on the merit based immigration policy.
We don't know her official statement on that specific policy.
No you can't assume because she objects to other components of the immigration policy that she then opposes the merit based.
