This, also several weeks in the hospital, how many hundreds of thousands of dollars which no one will ever pay. Yep we are such a heartless Nation.
Oh, people will pay. It will be the US taxpayers, either via tax dollars, or higher health care costs to provide health care that illegals don't pay for. Next time someone complains about the cost of health care-they need look no further.
It is stories like this that I do genuinely wonder how much fault the U.S. is responsible for caring for immigrants with the budget they have and how much fault it is of the parents that bring their kids here as those lines can often be blurred.
Look -- I think Trump's policy of separating parents from kids as a deterrent to seeking asylum here is cruel but claiming the government is negligent for these deaths -- I don't know enough about each of the illnesses -- but children die in the USA under good doctor care all the time. This deflects from the real concerns.
I know folks think the parents are careless for putting the kids' in this kind of environment but time after time these parents have been interviewed and say that the risk is worth it. That their lives back in Guatemala or wherever they called home are so tragic that this journey and gamble at a better life is better than staying in their home country.
There is a humanitarian crises. Does it mean the USA has to take all these people in? Does it mean we have to give them handouts? I don't think so but I think there is a more humane, balanced approach that could be used.
Landscape companies here in the Low Country are getting temporary visas for workers to do jobs because as the jobs added in the USA stays positive for almost 9 years -- they are fewer folks available to do the work.
Why can't we be more thoughtful. There are farms that need workers, there are resorts, landscape companies, etc......and some of these people may be skilled workers...we don't know.
But trying to make it all Trump's fault that children arrive at the border in need of medical care and they die even after getting some....meh -- I don't know.
And i'm critical of Trump and this administration.
The answer is for them to stay in their countries and organize and demand better conditions. The US government could help by having managers or some type of receivership to handle the distribution of foreign aid to these countries. If they want our aid, they need to comply with demands to create better conditions for their own citizens. Otherwise, we're just throwing our money at corrupt officials who pocket the money and encourage their poor to come here. And why not? It's a win/win for them. They don't have to take care of the people, and the people send money back to their families in remittances.
I don't mind sending aid money to these countries, but they don't get the aid money with zero accountability while foisting their poor on us to deal with. We have thousands of U.S. citizens who we have to take care of, and it's getting harder and harder to do because of this issue.
None of these children’s deaths have been the fault of the US. Anyone making such ridiculous claims is a liar. Drag your already-sick and malnourished kids on a journey of thousands of miles, and there will be collateral damage.
It sickens me to see adults absolve themselves of responsibility for anything in their lives, including the children they produce in great numbers.
The left will continue to blame the US and the border agents, as a manifestation of their hatred for this country. Any chance they get to attack the country makes them feel a bit better about themselves since they are consumed by self-hatred.

I work for CBP and have worked at SW border.
Whenever an immigrant is in our custody, we ask them if they (or their children) need to see the a medical provider. If they say no, then they will have to sign a waiver so it doesn't fall back on CBP if they fall ill and die. The nearest hospital is 45 minutes drive away from our station. CBP agents/officers are not medical doctors and our CBP stations/holding facilities are not hospital. A lot of people don't know that the majority of CBP stations are in the middle of nowhere away from civilizations.
Why does this child's death have to be anyones fault? The child was ill.
The mother waited until three days after they were apprehended to inform BP the child was ill.
