The options are based on what other countries seem to have. That is why 17 and 20 aren't options.

I'd definitely say keep it at 21. Raising it seems a bit much. But 16? Come on!

I used to be in the tattoo business. All these kids want to permanently mark themselves..."If my mom signs, can I get one at 15?". You know what? When I was 18, I thought I had it all figured out. Now, looking back, I didn't! My tastes, ideas, ideals, etc have evolved and changed. At 18, we are still growing...our brains are still developing. Some 21 year olds are still pretty immature! I certainly was! The 21 year limit is a good and fair place for the "bar" (no pun intended ) to be set.
Besides...I drank well before I was 21! Where there's a will, there's a way. We don't have to condone it for it to happen. But I also tended to drink at house parties, etc. There was no where near the amount of drinking & driving that there would have been if it was legal for me to drink at the same age that I got my license.

No reason for ANY limitation on age at all. People are just as much drunks at 48 as they are at 18...probably less, actually. And if parents are parenting, then their kids aren't overimbibing anyway.

Which brings us right back to what's important: PERSONAL responsibility.

It's already going on so they might as well make it legal at 16. Just yesterday at the beach these kids from my high school brought a whole cooler of all types of vodka. This other group had three coolers of beer. I didn't drink the vodka, but i had some beer. I got drunk on a cruise from straight vodka. My college neighbors invited me over to drink with them at a party when my parents weren't home.

Either you are an adult at 18 or not. If 18 is the standard age that we are considered legal adults, then it should be a no-brainer. I feel this way despite the fact that I think most 18 year olds will be irresponsible with it. Its all about what this country was founded on. I hate to use this lame arguement but its true, if you can go war at 18, you should be able to drink at 18 as well.

The drinking age is not a federal issue. Its an age that should be dictated by the state legislatures.

Maybe...but the federal government twists the arms of the states to make it 21. They refuse to use federal funds on federal roads if the states lowers the age...bribery, apparently, is very effective.

Exactly. Somehow this is legal? Or a loophole? They did this to the state of Wisconsin when they didn't want to lower their B.A.C. limit from .1 to .08. Of course Wisconsin changed it when they realized they were going to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in highway money!!!

I wonder what would happen if the states would tell its citizens to not send money to the federal government. Sure, the federal government can arrest a few thousand, but a whole state? That would be interesting...
