I just stumbled upon this podcast discussing the question, "How bad was slavery in America?" The answer was so thorough and covered so many common responses that I had to share it...
It should read "How bad is it". We are free to do what the rich and powerful decide we can do, while they exempt themselves from being responsible due to their alleged contributions to our economy.
LOL How bad was it? I didn't listen to that podcast and don't have to.
Slavery is slavery, and wasn't any better here. Among other things, the idea of human beings considered to be chattel, and sold along with realty (and even included in deeds), is abhorrent.
If it takes you four seconds to make a good guess as to the source of the question and podcast (however obscured it may be), you're having a really slow day.
How bad is it to get have your family ripped away and sold as chattel?
What a obtuse question.
Believe it or not, there are many people who (based on their limited and/or incorrect impressions about the issue) currently believe that slavery wasn’t quite as bad as we make it out to be. Or that Black people just need to “get over it”. Some people even believe that slavery was good for Black people. They discuss and systematically break down each of these points. This may sound crazy to us, but there are people in 2019 who believe the issue American slavery was somewhat overblown.
The podcast shatters a lot of myths like “the north didn’t have slaves” or “white slaves had it just as bad as black slaves” or “there was such a thing as humane slavery”, etc.

Not sure what you mean by this comment...
