The closest this country ever came to nuclear war was in 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis.

Today, many have the attitude if a president is in your party it doesn't matter if he is mentally unstable.

Your own defense of Trump is itself sad as your only defense of Trump is that he alone may not have the authority to press the nuclear trigger. That is as pathetically a low bar as you could get for a president.

How far the American electorate has fallen.

I can't get over it.

look i get that you hate trump with a passion. really i do. but the reality of the situation here is that trump, like every president before him since the 50s, cannot just up and order the launch of nuclear weapons. we have this thing called a defense condition, aka defcon. and the generals decide what defcon number we are at, usually we re at defcon four or five. and they wont ask for, or release nuclear weapons until we reach defcon one, or we are under attack by nuclear weapons. at that point they will call on the president to authorize release of our nuclear arsenal of weapons. its part of the command structure to prevent unauthorized release, or un warranted release of nuclear weapons. perhaps if you had any education on how it works, you might realize that trump just cant go a release weapons of mass destruction just because he wants to.

so sorry you are deluded int thinking that trump can just release them anytime he wishes. again you need a valium and you need help.

Only a radical Muslim will pop a nuke. Your racist rant notwithstanding.

Actually, as bad as many middle eastern countries hate Israel, the ones who have nukes, have so far, resisted the urge to use them against Israel. Some of these countries are not shy about they feel towards ISrael either, they have said they want it 'wiped off the face of the earth'...and yet NO nukes have ever been used against Israel...How do you explain that?
They keep bleating how they would cleanse themselves of infidels with purifying fire. Draw your own conclusions.

The Paki nuke missiles can’t reach Israel. They would rather nuke India.

1983 called, and wants its rhetoric back.

Good grief, leftists trot out the specter of imminent nuclear war every time they hit a dry patch in the news cycle. And they've been doing it for 60 years.

Do you even have a clue?

Which weapon generates more fallout, the 20 kt Fat Man dropped on Hiroshima or a 750 kt ICBM or SLBM warhead?

That, in fact, is a trick question, because the amount of fallout is the same.

If you don't understand why, you should probably refrain from posting news articles you don't understand.

The US doesn't have tactial nuclear weapons. They were removed from inventory and dismantled decades ago.

The Russians still have tactical nuclear weapons, but the majority are enhanced radiation warheads, you know, the "neutron bomb" (snicker), although the Russian actually do have 10 kt neutron bombs (the US never did) delivered by Su-series aircraft and certain MiG aircraft.

The Chinese have no tactical nuclear weapons.

You mean like JFK?

During the transition meetings in December 1960, Eisenhower told JFK not to deploy the Jupiter intermediate range missiles to Italy and Turkey, until the situation with Castro had been handled.

JFK, being the arrogant jackass he was, ignored Ike, and then ignored two telephone calls and four letters from Ike begging JFK not to deploy those missiles.

The Soviets ignored Castro, but Ike knew as soon as those missiles were deployed, the Soviets would do a 180° about face and warm up to Castro in an attempt to put missiles in Cuba to counter the US threat in Italy and Turkey.

That's exactly what happened, so JFK caused the Cuban Missile Crisis because he was stupid and wreckless.

We didn't have nukes, either.

Little Boy was the only weapon of its kind and the US didn't have enough U-235 to build more.

There were three Fat Man bombs, one tested in the Trinity Test, one used on Hiroshima, and the third was readied for use on Tokyo, if Japan had not surrendered when they did.

The US had more Pu-239/240, and it had components, but it never assembled in any other weapons.

Once the 3rd Fat Man bomb was dissambled after Japan surrendered, the US had no working deployable nuclear weapons until 1949, although in a war, the US could have assembled all the components in about 2-3 months.

You didn't come "damn close."

That's a gross exagerration by Kennedy apologists.

JFK already agreed to remove the Jupiters in exchange for the withdraw of the Soviet SS-4s and SS-5s in Cuba.

All Jupiters were removed before the first Soviet missile was removed, and the last Soviet missile didn't leave Cuba until August 1967.

The Soviet ship turning back was a non-event and totally irrelevant.

The SS-4 is static, but the SS-5 is mobile and used a tracked vehicle as a launcher.

The Soviet ship was carrying the launchers for the SS-5, but the SS-4s could have launched at any time.

The closest you ever actually came was during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, when Task Force 74 led by the USS Enterprise was in contact with two Soviet surface groups.

Had India not ceased pursuing the remants of the fleeing Pakistani army who had just got their ass handed to them, it's likely the US would have authorized interdiction operations launched from the Enterprise to keep the Indian army from crossing the border into Pakistan.

The Soviets would have sent Task Force 74 to the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

Lest you forget, the Soviets had both anti-ship and cruise missiles, while the US Navy had nothing of the kind, because it was run by a bunch of Mustache Petes still gloating over the glory of ship-to-ship combat in WW II.

With what?

Pakistan has only U-235 for nuclear weapons. The largest warhead the Pakis could possibly build is 60 kt, which is unfortunate, because the Pakis have no aircraft and no missiles capable of delivering a 60 kt warhead.

And none of that matters, because the Pakis have no aircraft or missiles that could get anywhere close to Israel.

Pakistan has only a handful of 20 kt warheads, and all of them are delivered by aircaft only, so unless they can penetrate Indian air defenses, they're not going to do much.

Also, the weapons are unassembled. I don't know the exact number, it's between 4-7 warheads, but I do know where the pits, bullets and electronic packages are stored. They're stored in separate locations for security reasons.

During war-time operations, it would take about 90 minutes for the Pakis to transport all three components to a single location to assemble the warhead and prep it for use
.
Good to know, but it doesn’t answer the bigger question I was asking that poster, which is, what Middle Eastern countries was he talking about that have nuclear weapons, and have been showing restraint with them?
