A country appreciates it when one of the most powerful men on the planet visits them and treats them as equals and worthy of attention and respect.

Don't kid yourself. Japan is still very much a society where dissonance is not particularly encouraged. In Tokyo, where the city population matches the entire state of California, to "go along to get along" in many respects is the only way to keep the place from falling into mayhem. Been there, seen it for myself.

Also worth mentioning is they are an unerringly polite people, not given to call out rude guests like Trump using a chair at a Sumo match.

How much did Trump have to pay, to stage that demonstration? I'd bet that the money was taken out of one of his "charitable" funds.

Umm, showing up to praise someone in this way is hardly going along to get along. Now I agree that it would be unusual for the Japanese people to behave like American Democrats and tear the town apart, but this is also not the expectation.
