The question is based on "we should do anything to sell to China" mentality.
Once again, it's only 3% of our agricultural production.
Who said "we should do anything to sell to China"?
The question is whether we should engage in self-defeating tariffs that will cause a current, large market for American exports to evaporate while increasing the costs borne by US consumers and taxpayers while simultaneously increasing Chinese soft power in our own back yard.
That's like saying Macy's is more important to consumers than consumers are to Macy's.
BTW, how are Macy's custoners doing as Macy's stores continue closing? Are they unable to buy clothes and housewares?
You don't seem to understand the relationship between supplier and consumer.
This isn't about that. You can address what I said or talk about Macy's. The markets fall and we have major political upheaval. China just waits it out.
We then buy up cheap Chinese Apple phones or whatever it is they call them.

Our markets will fall briefly, but they will be better in the long run.
You're short sighted and don't understand how this benefits us or even seem to understand trade deficits.
