Also, past floods have lead to communities building flood walls, levys, (wow won't let me type a slang word for lesbian here) systems etc. which pushes the problem downstream. This has been done over the past 40+ years all along the IL border with IA and MO.
I can respect a good discussion about warming, fossil fuels etc. but dang...way to just hand over the high ground of using "science".
Stop making sense
To a liberal, the construction of levies over the last 60 years could not possibly make flooding worse in other areas. They have one answer, and one answer alone, for everything...... it is CO2.
Who would have thought 35 years ago that little, innocuous molecule could cause so much angst among the misinformed? At least worrying about sulpher dioxide had a little Satanic ring (and smell) to it, so hatred of that molecule is understandable. But CO2?
The really childish thing that happens in the back and forth on Climate Change: A whole lot of people who do not know what the hell they're talking about decide to toss their two cents worth in, generally saying something that is incredibly stupid. "[Something stupid] ... bla, bla, bla, Climate Change!" Whole lot of that happening on both sides.
When you see something that's been happening ever since anyone can remember and attribute it to Climate Change, you damage the credibility of the whole concept.
Agree with your top comment (both sides!)
Regarding the bottom comment, I heard a great analogy, and I think it applies here (maybe?), it certainly applies to a lot of cases in this subject.
Saying something, like the Iowa floods, is attributed to climate change is neither fully accurate, nor is it fully incorrect. As the OP has stated, it has been happening since the beginning of time, but it's also true that there is an increase in frequency and severity of some extreme weather events. I researched it last week, and I "think" flooding is one of them. The analogy given was that of Steroids in Sports. Think Mark McGuire for example. You can say that his use of steroids enhanced his performance, but you can also say that he was a slugger before steroids. Can you attribute his records 100% to steroid use? NO. Can you say that it did not have an impact? NO.
Same with climate change: Weather always has, and always will happen. The way you measure it is by understanding the trends.
For me, I try to be aware, and do little things where I can, but I also understand that 8 billion people on earth requires that we do some things to feed us all. Humans WILL have an impact on the earth. Likewise, earth WILL go on, with or without us. We are a flash in the pan. We should do what we can, but shouldn't let it completely rule our lives. I think...
This year set the record for precipitation going back over 100 years. The Mississippi River crested at a new record high, they have been at the flood stage for over a month.
Warren is a grandstanding moron.
100 year records are worthless for comparison.
Here is an NPR article from a year ago that it explains it all.
Nicholas Pinter, a geologist and the associate director of the Center for Watershed Sciences at the University of California, Davis.
"What you're doing in many cases is taking a flood plain out there — it can be 5 [or] 6 miles wide — and you're forcing the water that would otherwise spread across that area to go through a narrow passageway." As the passageway gets narrower, the water flows faster and higher.

In the last 50 years, thousands of homes have been built in the flood plain, so of course there is more damage. Also thousands of acres have been paved over, which makes the land easier to flood.
But, but, but none of that was human-caused.
That’s just nature.
I'm guessing that the NPR article I sourced in post #23 is going to kill this thread.
Hey, when an NPR article from a year ago makes her look like an idiot it's pretty much game over.
Would be funny if someone in the press threw that question at her....."Well according to NPR article XYZ the flooding is really exacerbated by the continued government funded flood control programs. So what do you plan to do about those?"
Especially funny when you read the article and higher floods etc. were noted as a consequence of levys etc. on flooding along the MS river back in the 1800's.

Yes, isn't it interesting how the left can put molecules together and come up with transfer of wealth !!!
Check out the Geoengineering Watch site for info about weather manipulation. Their book has a list of the patents companies hold for methods of controlling the weather. Remember President Johnson saying, "When we control the weather, we will control the world." Other countries have the same idea.
Check out GeoengineeringWatch.org for info on man's manipulation of the weather. You will enjoy the clip of President Johnson licking his chops at the prospect of ruling the world by controlling the weather.
