"But one place they have been avoiding like the plague is Antarctica ... "
Your blogger has been living on mars or they need to research a bit before making that claim. I knew it was false before I looked, because I had seen a documentary on the hard time the polar animals are having, due to the change in their natural environment. (6th mass extinction and all of that)
"Antarctica has experienced air temperature increases of 3°C in the Antarctic Peninsula. Although that might not seem very much, it is 5 times the mean rate of global warming as reported by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)."
"As the Antarctic Peninsula heats up, the rules of life there are being ripped apart. Alarmed scientists aren’t sure what all the change means for the future."
and: Climate change: past and future
"In contrast with the Peninsula, climate records from the interior of the continent do not yet show a clear warming trend. According to the Fourth Assessment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (published in 2007), Antarctica is the only continent that does not show significant human-caused warming (averaged for the continent as a whole) over the past 50 years. However, using satellite data some scientists have argued more recently that West Antarctica is warming."
