The shooter used extended clips which are a basic assault-style implement. It was all over the news. If he had had an AR-15 he might have been spotted at the gate and stopped. With the handgun, he had the element of surprise. I think this shows why we need to ban assault weapons AND handguns.
Can you explain what you mean by "extended clips"? Excepting revolvers, most of my handguns came with magazines which hold 15, 17 or 19 rounds. If this is standard as supplied by the manufacturer, what do you mean by "extended"?

I once saw a movie where only the police and military had guns...

Thanks for backing up my point with that “evidence.” Hey, 96% of gun deaths being unjustified can’t get much worse at least.
2/3 of gun-inflicted deaths in recent years are due to suicide - freely-chosen and self-inflicted. That doesn't fit the agenda though, does it?
And what do you propose to do about thugs killing thugs as mentioned in the graphic? Should we even care about those or count them as lamentable?
That poster evidently thinks we should be scanning backpacks at elementary schools, maybe some pat downs and body cavity searches. Going to Home Depot? We'll need to have a dog sniff your truck "just in case".
The line to get in to eat anywhere would be genuine under that poster's ideal. Take off your shoes, maybe strip down to your underwear.
Ok You are good to enter.
"That poster evidently thinks we should be scanning backpacks at elementary schools,"
Actually some DO. There is a private school, grade school through high school, in the heart of crime ridden Wash. D.C that has been doing it for several years. They also control the entry points and have VOLUNTEERED ARMED school personnel who go through extensive training and continual training throughout the year.
And I have to ask, the COPS need to have weapons of "mass slaughter?" Now that is some crazy s***. At any rate I say if the cops can have it the people bloody sure can. They patrol 8 hours a day, we live out here. And it has been totally proven over and over again that we cannot depend on the cops to protect us.
They just bring the ME and the body bags. Clean up crew. As it's been said "when seconds count the police are only minutes away." In many cases more than minutes. And in support of my position that if the cops have certain weapons the citizens can have the same it bears saying that cops are not special. They are citizens just like us. The badge doesn't make them some sort of royalty.
They are just a supplementary security force. We the People are the first line of defense.
"we need to ban assault weapons"
I'd bet he doesn't even know what an "assault weapon" is!
That's because he/she has no argument. Especially when it's proven that something they support is a complete failure except in the most extreme circumstance.
Indeed it is completely insane to suggest doing the same for every public building or even private places that are posted as "gun free zones". Realistically what are the odds that anyone of us will become a victim of a mass shooting?
To put things into perspective, I did a little research. In shootings involving four or more victims in the US and with a population of 330,000,000 people your odds of being killed in one is infinitesimal. You stand a better chance of being struck by lightning or being killed in a motor vehicle accident or drowning.
87 people were killed in the Happyland Fire in 1990 in which what was a dollars worth of gas at the time, a container and match was the weapon of choice. That's 28 more than what Paddock killed with a bunch of AR 15's equipped with bump stocks firing into a crowd of thousands from a hotel room.
Unintentional Drowning Deaths in the United States, 1999–2010 www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db149.htm
A total of 46,419 people died from unintentional drowning in the United States from 1999 through 2010, an average of 3,868 deaths per year.
Look at what Mcvey managed to do WITHOUT FIRING A SHOT!
"Timothy James McVeigh (April 23, 1968 – June 11, 2001) was an American domestic terrorist who perpetrated the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people and injured over 680 others."
Lol. Archie has taught me a lot about the mindset of many on the right. Is it coincidental that both Archie and Trump are from Queens? “Case closed.”

Not surprised someone like you would think Archie was a REAL person!“ Case closed"
The murders of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield occurred on February 2, 2013, at a shooting range near Chalk Mountain, Texas. Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, 38, and Chad Littlefield, 35, were both killed by Eddie Ray Routh, a 25-year old Marine.
If you have accidental shootings, along with homicides, in a environment that’s supposed to be regulated well, like a shooting range, then what do you think also happens outside that environment every single day in this country?
That’s 110 deaths a day, equivalent to a small town dying every day. Almost 5 deaths an hour. Actually someone probably died from a gun death during this post.
The fact is people have died, whether accidentally or not at gun ranges. This directly contradicts the previous assertions that things like this don’t happen at gun ranges... because they do.
"Criminologist and researcher Gary Kleck, using his own commissioned phone surveys and number extrapolation, estimates that Americans use guns for defensive purposes 1.2 million times each year — and that 1 in 6 Americans who have used guns defensively believe someone would have died but for their ability to resort to their defensive use of firearms."
"If those states which did not have right-to-carry concealed gun provisions had adopted them in 1992, approximately 1,570 murders; 4,177 rapes; and over 60,000 aggravated assaults would have been avoided yearly."
Governor is trying for common sense gun laws, not trying to take away any person's 2nd ammend. rights.
"Governor is trying for common sense gun laws,"
Depends on what your definition of "common sense" is!
Out of the over 20,000 existing gun laws, how many have actually STOPPED a gun crime from being committed.
