All they ever had on the kids were the confessions, which the boys said were coerced. The police attributed many statements to them but there has always been dispute as to whether those actually happened. The confessions that were recorded happened after they had been in custody for hours, and some of the kids had been beaten during that time.
Meanwhile, there was no physical evidence form the actual rape on the boys. Not just a lack of DNA but they also didn't have dirt, leaves, or anything from the area on them... which would be hard to do if you were really beating and holding down a woman in a park while she as raped. AND they told conflicting stories about the act itself is consistent with a bunch of kids making things up. That is the reason the convictions were overturned after the real rapist confessed. The authorities couldn't even make the other stuff continue to stick because the "confessions" were so suspect.
Thank you.
There were so many things wrong with the way these kids were treated right from the start, including but of course not limited to, interviewing them without representation, and so on.
They were easy suspects and as I recall, there was really no effort made to look elsewhere despite all of the contradictory evidence noted above.
But clearly, many will never be convinced that they shouldn't have been imprisoned for breathing or "something."
The "Central Park 5" is an OLD story from what, 3 decades ago? If you're seeing stories about it now, on multiple networks, it's not to cover news, it's a coordinated effort to promote an agenda.

Or a documentary about it was just released. But carry on LOL
I just watched "The Fugitive" on Netflix... why isn't CNN running a story on Sam Sheppard?
Oh please. When the Ted Bundy documentary came out there were a bunch of stories about him. When the “making a murderer” type podcasts blew up we got a bunch of those stories too. The documentary about that Mormon couple whose daughter got molested twice by the same guy also generated coverage. The Fyre Festival one as well...
This thing was released on Netflix this weekend and was done by an award winning director, and it’s dominated social media ever since. So of course there will be stories.

Outside the entertainment pages, the Ted Bundy doc never made a ripple at headline news organizations.
Were there ever any indications that Bundy was falsely prosecuted?
The Central Park 5 settlement is 5 year OLD news too... headlines don't revolve around Netflix shows.
