Defibrillators cost thousands, require regular maintenance that costs hundreds, and only work for a certain range of heart situations.

Hard to say whether it would have saved this boy.

What would have kept him safe was adult supervision.

It’s not uncommon for pools to have defibrillators.

Were the parents told that the boy may have been saved if the equipment had been available?
If so, then their call isn’t at all unreasonable.

Of course the kids shouldn’t have been unsupervised but kids drown under supervision too.

If there’s a possibility of saving just one family from this nightmare, what’s the harm in trying to have something good come from their loss?
The harm is the cost. Obviously.
