The survey finds that Americans feel more worried today about fake news because it's undermining their trust in key institutions, like government and the media.

"Fake news" and "misinformation" are abstract terms, which gives people in power — such as President Trump — room to weaponize the term in order to denounce news they don't like.

I am not one to deny the points made in her source article, but her conclusion is misleading and frankly wrong.

It is indeed a win for America and democracy when the majority now understand that President Trump's routine use of the phrase “fake news” has made our country more divided and dangerous. It is hopeful that more Americans are aware that his intentional use of a rhetorical tool is just his deliberate attempt to confuse his supporters and undermine opponents in an effort to rally his political base.

The world's autocrats and dictators have long taken a shine to discredit journalists and credible mainstream media. President Trump has conferred legitimacy to this terribly dangerous phrase as a tool for attacking his critics and to deliberately undermine our institutions of democracy. I think it is great news that Americans are finding President Trump's tactics appalling and harmful to our nation.

Thank our lucky stars that more Americans daily are awake to the shamefulness of his destruction and are celebrating and supporting our credibly recognized news sources and journalists. You know, those who are truly winning the Trump declared media war on truth in the name of and for the citizens of the USA.
Could not agree with you more. But take heart, the crackpots that post this junk here on this forum don't represent most Americans, not even most Trump supporters.

Republicans reap what they sow!
The simplistic fake news conclusion you offer dismisses quite a lot in the usual partisan fashion.

Print, Cable, and internet media was never subject to the "Fairness Doctrine" !!!

It applied to Radio, ABC, NBC, CBS, and the public broadcasting channel. It never kept up with changing tech. and new methods of communications.

Through its history both democrats and republicans were on both sides and the same side of it at various times. As is often the case when there is bipartisan agreement in congress and the Oval Office its the public that gets screwed !!!

When an attempt to bring it back was made Obama was President and :

In February 2009, a White House spokesperson said that President Obama continued to oppose the revival of the Doctrine.

The AP report went on to say that President Obama had no intention of reimposing the doctrine, but Republicans (led by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-SC) wanted more in the way of a guarantee that the doctrine would not be reimposed

So now will you stop blaming the media whenever someone disagrees with you?

Nobody trusts the media right?

Poll: Americans view fake news as a bigger problem than terrorism

Americans view made-up news and information as a bigger problem than other critical issues
, including terrorism, immigration, climate change and racism, according to a new survey from Pew Research Center.

And we should just ignore the fact that Trump is a far more prolific source of "made-up news and information" than what HE terms 'fake-news' media outlets?

What the OP wants us to ignore is that the headline and article, sourced, indicts as detrimental, the tactics of the president, in the minds of most Americans. Most Americans now understand the dangers and damage that POTUS has caused with his deliberate and intentional use of the tool of choice of autocrats and dictators. Fake News.

This thread is a failed attempt to deceive others into believing that the conclusion of the poll/ report is what OP wants it to be, not what the article really is or means. Or maybe the article provided in the OP was not read or understood prior to posting. Either way:

So you are saying you didn't understand the article you used for this thread? Or didn't read it? Or perhaps English is not your first language? Example: the word report as I used was to refer to the poll report/article you provided for this thread topic.

But hey if you want to introduce the Mueller Report as truth and facts, I agree wholeheartedly...it is highly recommended reading with undeniable facts and truth in black and white. You just have to have the desire to want to know! Very easy to obtain.

Peace!

So per your article:
"Fake news and misinformation are abstract terms which give people in power-such as president Trump- room to weaponize the term in order to denounce news they don't like."
Enough said. Unfortunately, emotional thinkers prefer low information because they want to believe what they want to believe.

If you want the truth, read the Mueller report.

Either way his term just needs to end, its way too polarizing and we need to do better.
To beat Trump my choices are Rashida Tlaib for President! or Maxine Waters for President.
