On his watch the banking industry went from being locked-up and too frightened to loan money to working as they should
On his watch the US auto industry went from collapse to boom
On his watch the US housing market went from collapse to boom
On his watch the stock market went from a free fall to boom
On his watch the economy went from shedding over 700,000 jobs/month to creating well over 200,000 jobs/month
On his watch the percentage of Americans without health insurance dropped from 16% to roughly 9%
When historians judge presidents, it's usually how they handled crises during their terms. I mean, if the Civil war hadn't happened, would we still consider Lincoln to be great? FDR without the Great Depression and WWII? In my lifetime:
JFK - Cuban missile crisis - Good
LBJ - Civil rights - good, Vietnam - Bad
Nixon - Vietnam - Bad
Ford - only 2 years
Carter - Iran - Actually good, but made him look bad
Reagan - No true crisis, except crisis in American confidence - good
Bush Sr - Kuwait - Good
Clinton - No crisis, good economy
Bush Jr - 911 good, but messed up with Iraq, net bad
Obama - great recession - good
Trump - nothing yet
So we might remember Reagan or Clinton or Obama as good presidents, but they will be forgotten in history because they didn't have any dramatic crisis that they had to address.
I think Obama was an awful leader of our country, right up there with carter as the worst in my memory, in more ways than I would want to take my time to list. no one asked me in this poll!
If anyone today ran on or held his positions the left and most of the right would label them an extreme right wing politician. Libs blindly cite JFK without even knowing his positions...they just know people on both sides liked him.
Republicans love to appropriate Dead Democrats as their own to try to make themselves less extreme than they really are. Except for among theirselves, it isn’t working.
LBJ got a lot done legislatively. Why would you rank him so low? Certainly better than Ike, JFK, Nixon, W, Carter or Bush Sr., Ford and Trump
