Are we one nation united or just a bunch of interest groups. Plus IMHO it would be embarrassing to have every nation on earth think we’ve become a fruit to loop land.
If he was really trying to make points with the LGBTQ folks, he just injured his foot. Or make he can't connect Dot One with Dot Two. That's always a possibility.
It is at the discretion of the U.S. ambassador of the country the embassy is in. The embassy in Israel flies it every year on Pride day since at least 2013 or so. I was working in Israel at the time, I saw it flying over the embassy. The streets were lined with the flags from the city, so I didnt think the one on the embassy stood out too much to be honest.
If the SecState disagrees, an ambassador can still choose to fly it. Might not be politically smart though.
It's a flag that demonstrates your sexual preference. What's next, a flag for those that like it doggie style? Should we put that on display too? The whole thing of displaying your preferences is perverted.
No it isn't. Plenty of straight people - like me - display it because we LIKE human rights.
And just reading all the homophobic replies reinforces why we still need a Gay Pride celebration.
Just because people don't agree with flying a gay pride flag on the U.S. Embassy flag poles doesn't mean they're homophobic.
The gay pride flag demonstrates pride in a personal preference, in this case someone's sexual orientation. Many people have pride in their religion of choice, their heritage, race, age, etc.. All of which are protected classes under the federal laws against discrimination. We don't fly flags on federal building for each and every "pride", so why single out this one? We have a flag to fly that covers all of these; it's the American flag.
When you have the President of the USA proudly state that his administration is fighting against countries that persecute LGBTQ -- it sends mixed messages when that same administration doesn't allow the embassies around the world fly the Gay Pride flag for the month of June.
It would be a way the USA shows it's policy on this issue...but maybe the President was just making stuff up again....right?

This isn't like flying a flag for a sports team...it isn't 'pride in personal preference' -- it's support of LBTQ community and their fight for equal rights, etc....all over the world.
I think that the President singled out this issue world wide with his own policy statement.
By refusing the request it implies -- meh -- maybe the PResident was just yapping again -- no substance behind his statement.

It is rather contradictory.
Why would the administration not want this simple expression of that support?
I suspect Trump could really care less about the pride flag flying at embassies.
I suspect it is other -- real conservatives -- in his administration that don't think it is a great idea and he went along -- because he doesn't care,
I think Trump should say -- you know what -- fly those flags. The USA supports fighting for the lives of the LGBTQ community around the world and we need to show it. Reality -- base will see this as a sign of his willingness to be open, stick to his policies, etc......moderates will think it is a good thing -- and sure the liberal base will hurl insults as they do always.
Makes sense. Countries vary in their level of acceptance of homosexuality.
