we used to go to DR and Haiti on church mission trips.
providing free dentistry, dig septic tanks, etc.
we have not gone for the last two years
due to consistent and persistent threats
to our female volunteers.

A lady recently got beat up pretty badly at a hotel in Dominican Republic. She said that she saw the person wearing a hotel uniform, but doesn't remember much else since he had beat her face and she could barely see anymore.

DR needs to clean it up or they are going to lose their tourism dollars quickly.

Here's her story:

https://kfor.com/2019/05/31/woman-sa...s-of-injuries/

If you go down to the end of that page, you will see multiple stories about people who went there and died, recently.

Also, the hotel that this lady said she was beat up in, (and while this site doesn't have the photos, I've seen the photos and they are nasty), the hotel is trying to claim that she is after money. Uh...no. No one is going to beat themselves that badly for some money.

Never had a desire to go there anyway. Mexico is far cheaper, Spanish speaking, has far more beaches, excellent food, and is within short driving distance. Why fly to the Dominican Republic? I know how safe Mexico is...I don’t know squat about The Dominican Republic. Hell, Haiti is probably safer.

Haiti is in rough shape, but people I know that have gone there have never said they felt scared.

I imagine people who once considered the D.R. for a vacation are now having second thoughts, and they should be.

The ONLY Island I would ever consider visiting would be Puerto Rico because of their US affiliation.

And American women are getting raped in Mexican hotels, but TripAdvisor has censored it.

Have you had your head in the sand? Like 3 died in the last few weeks in the DR, and another couple got severely sick before the David Ortiz incident (although he is a native from the DR, a millionaire athlete, and out at a club/bar really late, which is a recipe for disaster). So no, it’s not a good time to go to the DR.....duh!!!

An investigative film crew just got robbed. It sounds like a pretty ratty place to visit. I've flown over it and the country is beautiful. At least, from the air.
