That's quite amazing and I am excited to be a part of it. Coal generation down for about 35% a few years back to 21% and it will continue to fall. Renewables growing by the equiv. of a couple nuke plants per year...and, lets face it, after watching Chernobyl there are probably few Americans pimping for more nukes (ain't gonna happen anyway.

Few Americans understand nuclear is the best and most environmental friendly way to go.
Science and engineering aren’t determined by votes. Regardless what majority of Americans think, the sun still rises in the east and gravity still exists.

There is so much disinformation about renewable's put out there by fossil fuels and other special interests telling American's "no you can't", but you just have to look at other countries implementing these technologies on a wide scale and being extremely successful to realize it's all a bunch of BS.
Renewables are a joke. We have so much fossil fuels they should be considered like a renewable. You can rely on solar and wind. (But you can't because its unreliable, and too small) The rest of us rely on real energy. Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, Hydro, Nuke.
A concerted government effort to demonize coal, block the building of any new coal plants, shut down existing coal plants and rob the taxpayers to subsidize the inherently unprofitable renewables market...yeah, it is surpassing coal. How shocking.
And in the article, it does say not to confuse capacity with actual generation of electricity, and it takes care to only mention Bloomberg's $500 million effort to block coal fired power, and nary a word about the federal government under Obama spending 8 years trying to destroy the coal industry.

There is a difference between "capacity" and megawatt hours generated. There are still very few big utilities that rely on wind power for "base load" generation- power available 100% of the time.
