This may sound funny, but imagine how much time, money and injustice a reliable lie detector could save the judicial system. All those criminals that still manage to trick and lie their way out of the courtroom would finally be held accountable. There is so much technical progress everywhere, but lie detector tests are still not 100% reliable afaik. And it is not exactly new tech, to put it mildly.

Sooner or later we might even be able to access memories directly. I.e. we show a defendant images of a victim or crime scene and all his/her memories surrounding that person or place will be displayed on a screen whether the person wants to or not.

Of course this would require tight, multiple controls in order to prevent abuse by authorities.

I'd want the same technology applied to everyone else in the courtroom. The judge, lawyers, police officers, witnesses, etc.

When it comes to politicians, it seems clear people are perfectly fine with their politicians lying to them.

I don't like the idea either way. Too Orwellian.
