The war was sold as a preventative action..we took that action so its a fallacious assertion to declare it a mistake.
All else does not exist in a vacuum when you speculate alternate paths of history.
So what if the intelligence on WMD was wrong? The final report stated that Saddam was going to restart his programs once sanctions relaxed. Did you miss that part?
Saddam had gamed sanctions and had his allies in Paris and Moscow poised to exploit his oilfields to the fullest extent... and put all that oil on the world market priced in Euros, ending US petrodollar hegemony. This would have devastated our economy.
Furthermore, out soldiers killed by some accounts, tens of thousamds of foreign fighters who came to kill Americans.

Most telling thing about the Iraq war was that when Bush gave the 48 hours notice before starting the war, not one democrat in either house of congress presented an alternative plan. Not one.
So hindsight is real easy as is removing a threat then later saying oh it wasnt as dangerous as we thought.
Tell that to the Saudis who we had a longstanding agreement to protect.
As for the 4000 soldiers well the insurgency began when charletan Joe Wilson convinced everyone that the war was started on false pretenses. Maybe if democrats wouldnt politicize wars we would have an easier time winning them.
The evidence is that we didn’t find them. If you wanna change history and magically put the WMD in Iraq to make yourself feel better, be my guest. But if they weren’t found there and you can’t prove they were ever there, then they were NEVER there by any legal reasoning.

We bombed every govt building then the people looted them down to the plumbing fixtures. And Saddam had every reason to not get caught with them and would be afraid his people would use them against him.

ALL modern countries have stuff. Now that Trump has transferred nuke tech to the Saudis...and signed to sell then 350 BILLION worth of other weapons, do you know what?
Yep. when we or another country decide, we can "find" lots of stuff there. In fact, being the biggest arms merchants in the world, we can "find" a lot of stuff exactly where we delivered it...

A second war in Iraq was inevitable the day we set up the "No Fly Zones".
Legally and figuritively the first one never ended. From a philosophical standpoint it was inevitable when desert storm ended with such ease for him. He was compelled to defy and attack us at every opportunity to attempt to restore his honor. When an Arab male is beaten by an opponent so forcibly it looks as if there was no chance of winning his honor is intact. However if the opponents victory is merely decisive and he quits while he could still fight this is a grave dishonor. When we merely caused his retreat to baghdad thats what we did. Many in the west do not recognize these peculiar arab ways.
If youve never done business with an arab and had him insult your mother with some variation of her fornicating with 1000 camels before you completed the deal you probably wouldnt understand. If that situation comes up, get mad, say something similar about his mother.... then laugh and shake hands or pat him on the back. You can do business now.

Agree and agree. My son did two tours over there. All that money gone. All that good will from the world after we were attacked on 9-11 squandered. All the lies. All the moving targets that were our goals. All the dead young that we sent over there. All the permanently maimed and injured - physically and emotionally. For what? For WHAT?? We were attacked on our own soil and we blew it. Godamned politicians and their godamned lies.
