Do you think Margaret Thatcher was in the wrong not to use her position to try to empower women?
Speaking as a woman myself - No, not wrong at all. It doesn't even make sense and in a way it would have been a type of discrimination against non-women and an abuse of her position and station. The very fact that she achieved and held the position of Prime Minister for so long is more than enough empowerment to other women as an example of what is possible for a strong woman to do.
As a Prime Minister she had too many other very important things on her plate to deal with than to be molly-coddling and showing favouritism to women simply because she was a woman herself. That's silly. A person of power can only jump on just so many band-wagons before they stretch themselves too thin. Thatcher knew what her limitations were and she knew she was one of the world leaders at the time, not a women's social worker.
I think Honor Blackman is in the wrong and thoughtlessly indiscreet for suggesting that Thatcher should have taken on the burden of favouring and boosting women because she's a woman too. Empowerment of women and activism against domestic abuse of women is one of Blackman's major big hobby horses and I think it's great she's that kind of activist - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What%2...ing_to_take%3F .
It's good there are strong, outspoken women like Blackman trying to help empower other women who are weak helpless victims and I'm all for it but I also think it's important for women to accept whatever responsibility they can for empowering themselves too, not to be always looking up to other people in power to do it for them, to intercede for them or boost their egos or ease their insecurities. Just because it's one of Blackman's causes and responsibilities that she's taken on for herself doesn't give her the right to be criticizing or trying to lay that same burden of responsibility onto the shoulders of people of power who already have enough other important responsibilities of their own. It makes no difference if those people of power are women or men.
We all know who Margaret Thatcher is, the infamous Iron Lady. While browsing IMDB I came upon an interesting quote from Honor Blackman who played the bond girl from the movie Goldfinger:
Do you think Margaret Thatcher was in the wrong not to use her position to try to empower women?
No. It wasn't her job to "empower women". It's each individual's own responsibility to empower themselves.
I am always amazed that they even care. I watched my friend from Norway get into with a guy from Scotland over Comey and others lying to get a wiretap warrant for Trump Towers. They actually went to blows. LOL
When I've asked, I've been told they find American politics fascinating. I've always thought that was a nice way of saying, 'a big mess'.....lol.
The fact is - Americans don't know the motives of our own politicians, or what they do to empower or promote others. There is NO WAY in hell people know the motives of foreign politicians or what they're doing to empower and promote others. It's all conjecture.
People may feel they're educated because they've seen a movie or read a book, but those are always done with a bias and never tell the full story.
Thatcher never appointed women because they were women - she appointed people who were good at what they did.
Her legacy though was to transform a moribund,union-dominated,old-fashioned industrial economy into a progressive, technological and financial service-based economy.
And that has allowed women to break through the glass ceiling and achieve high office and senior rank in commerce.
And without her the UK would not currently be the 5th-biggest economy in the world with the lowest unemployment rate in nearly four decades.
God help us if that Marxist and terrorist-sympathizer Corbyn gets into power.
What really bothers me about so many female politicians is so many of them try to pander to feminist groups and women yet seemingly ignore everyone else, especially men. Now, I get it, they want to try to attract women, but when all they do is talk about "women this" "woman that" it just serves to further divide men and women. I wish they would stop it and just focus on issues that affect EVERYONE.
