I can offer theories as to why our elites are self-destructing, but they would be just that. It's an interesting phenomenon to say the least. The only upside I can see is that it's opening up room at the top, for people like Obama as well as Trump.
Because they're threatened by the rise of Chinese billionaires. So the only option is to become trillionaires. That and China is innovating in the surveillance police state, and since corporations are hoarding trillions overseas, they can import that tech and keep the world in line until we all have a Chinese like one party government.
"Since the New Deal, Republicans have been on the wrong side of every issue of concern to ordinary Americans; Social Security, the war in Vietnam, equal rights, civil liberties, church-state separation, consumer issues, public education, reproductive freedom, national health care, labor issues, gun policy, campaign-finance reform, the environment and tax fairness."
Then we have the underhanded ways they win elections, including "extreme gerrymandering, vote-suppression and suspicious deviations between exit polls and official results that always favor Republicans."
We now have de facto minority rule. "Minority rule is tyranny -- the real kind -- not the phony hyperbole that Republicans dishonestly bleat."
It is impossible for any political party to be so consistently wrong by accident. So why? "What is the objective of all these sleazy anti-democratic tactics?"
"The Big Money interests that finance the Republican Party and its propaganda machine don't love guns or hate abortion or despise homosexuals. Those issues are just a means to mobilize the rubes into voting against their own economic interests."
Despite their cynical "family values," "fiscally responsible," "law and order" propaganda, the GOP is a criminal conspiracy to betray the interest of Americans in favor of "plutocratic and corporate interests."
The goal is to reduce the American middle class to low-paid, politically powerless peasants."
Democrats are not becoming "woke"... their party is shrinking because classically-liberal, middle class Democrats are leaving in droves.
The party that is shrinking the most is the GOP. That’s because it’s the party most dependent on the votes of white non-college voters; a demographic that has been shrinking due to age for over 20 years. The demographic groups more conducive to Democrats are growing.

But there’s more to consider here. The GOP holds the White House and the U.S. Senate, but if current trends continue, it soon might be struggling to maintain its major-party status. Registered Republican voters in the country are on the verge of being overtaken by independent voters, according to data from July 2018. Registered Democrats, meanwhile, outnumber Republicans nationwide by some 12 million.
A political party that can’t attract young people, especially in a generation that is as big as the Millennial generation—America’s largest demographic group—is not a party with a very bright future. So although Trump, while focusing on the base, has made the Republican Party his, come November it may not be as much of an advantage.

Actually, I would say Democrats are becoming woke that our party has been hijacked and the newbies we see today are far left loonies. And many of those older pols - Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi - weren't popular with many of us in the first place.
I honestly don't know what will happen to the party. Every person I know who has shared with me that they're a Democrat, thinks our politicians have lost their damn minds.
Most of the Right is not extreme. The policies of Republicans and conservatives are the same old stuff. The Democrats (Progressive Left) has move far, far left, and the candidates running for President are trying to out Commie each other daily. It is scary.

AKA blue collar pick up driving white middle America. We call those places Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Democrats used to count on those factory workers and farmers up there now they have tossed them out like trash. After all those states are a bit too white bread for them, not enough gay transgender types, not enough ME TOO, not enough BLM or antifa. Loss of the Midwest spells defeat for the democrats just as it did in 16.

republicans supported civil rights- dems opposed civil rights
the dems started the war in Vietnam- Nixon ended it
republicans support individual civil liberties- dems are the ones wanting to revoke constitutional rights
Trump has done more for American labor unions and factory workers than every president since Truman
Republicans support tax "fairness"- having everyone contribute something, otherwise they will always vote to increase taxes and seek more personal bennies from the treasury
Dems oppose free speech- witness shouting down conservatives and not allowing them to speak
Dems ruined the middle class via NAFTA and China trade policies
Libs are undermining American wages by importing slave wage illegals

Nothing radical about conservatives, capitalism, freedom and the constitution. Small government, states rights, right of free speech and to bear arms.....how is this radical?
Now we are capable of becoming radical in our defense of these time honored American values. We must be willing to do anything necessary from preventing socialism and leftist social policy from destroying America. They must be stopped at ALL costs.
