It doesn't seem like Libra can do anything that Apple Pay or Venmo can't do. Sure, Libra has a blockchain underlying everything, but I still receive USD instantly on paper using Venmo. The technology is intriguing, but I don't immediately see its purpose.

Not really. Using a Silicon Valley tech giant-controlled currency, with blockchain permanently recording all of your online activity, seems totally insane. We're in for a frightening forfeiture of personal rights if this invades everyday life and commerce. China's social credit system on steroids.

If they can create cryptocurrency out of thin air with nothing to back it they could give the Federal Reserve some serious competition.

Given FB's already notorious lack of concern about privacy, security, integrity, etc...what could go wrong?

Exactly. Facebook is email/youtube/mms for dummies. Dummies who want all their personal information mined and sold.

And Facebook crypto is crypto for dummies. It takes away the only good thing about crypto in that its anonymous. If you tie that to your Facebook account you might as well be using your bank account or credit cards.
