It should be considered an emergency, no? This is happening all over the US cities right under our assaulted noses, because feces do not smell rosy, and nothing changes. Therefore, it must be acceptable. How much are we going to take and what happens when it gets worse because we accept it as normal.

It should definitely be declared an emergency. The problem here in California, is that there is this collective feeling that we need to be so compassionate about the issue to the point that everything that comes along with it (such as open drug use, tent cities popping up everywhere, feces, etc) is ignored, tolerated, and accepted.

Oh but lets just tax people more and more to make it sound like we are building towards a solution and give the morons who run the State have the opportunity to smile in front of the t.v. cameras and tell us how much they are going to make things better and poof, the money magically disappears.

I don't know how we fix the problem. But it definitely doesn't help to allow people to openly commit crimes such as using drugs while at the same making it more difficult and expensive for build more affordable housing.

Some countries had solutions crazy enough to work. Have designated areas for addicts to safely inject BUT also get help.

Forgot which country but they did this and they were offered help at these facilities and many got back on their feet and overdoses dropped.

If for no other reason than to send a message. Second step should be to stop allowing them to shoot up on the streets. Third step, make them carry around pooper scoopers and clean up after themselves. All these require actual mechanisms to make them comply, which we know is not going to happen.

Wait until a plague really hits the West Coast and then maybe something can be done about it. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but it may be the final straw. It does seem like there is starting to be some actual pushback by the public, which is good.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Pot is only “legal” in a handful of states and they are already pushing for more legal drugs. Gomorrah awaits.

Republican states/cities/towns don't have homeless and people openly doing drugs? Wrong.

People are still being arrested for drug offenses, sometimes, but "street" people seem to be able to do what they want where and when they want.

I see people shooting up on Main Street USA, do I ignore it? Report it, will police respond, will they arrest them? What if they are snorting something, or smoking something... What if they are urinating (indecent exposure). From what I understand, people just WALK BY and IGNORE it. Don't wear shoes in their houses because they probably walked through human excrement at some point. This is our adaptation. What the heck have we become.

I would be okay with this as a possible solution. From what I understand is that in these countries these clinics track and lower the dosage as a way to decrease dependency. But I'm absolutely not okay with drug use on the streets and until the laws are changed, illegal use should be penalized.

We appear to be accepting a lawless president and administration, so yeah--Americans will pretty much accept anything.
