Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. 2. The freedom and pluralism of the media shall be respected.
Here's another example.
Freedom of speech in the Czech Republic is guaranteed by the Czech Charter of Fundamental Rights and Basic Freedoms, which has the same legal standing as the Czech Constitution. It is the first freedom of the charter's second division - political rights. It reads as follows:
Article 17
(1) The freedom of expression and the right to information are guaranteed.
(2) Everyone has the right to express their opinion in speech, in writing, in the press, in pictures, or in any other form, as well as freely to seek, receive, and disseminate ideas and information irrespective of the frontiers of the State.
(3) Censorship is not permitted.
(4) The freedom of expression and the right to seek and disseminate information may be limited by law in the case of measures necessary in a democratic society for protecting the rights and freedoms of others, the security of the State, public security, public health, and morals.
(5) State bodies and territorial self-governing bodies are obliged, in an appropriate manner, to provide information
There's a long list of countries with freedom of speech.
In England, the government has blocked news programs from airing that the government did not like.
Yet they have Hate Speech laws in Europe and you can be jailed for just speaking your mind.
A lie told repeatedly is still a lie.
It has been widely reported around the world that two teens spent months in jail in the U.S. for "speaking their minds" on internet sites.
Pick another horse other then the "freedom of speech" thingy, as that one's had flies feeding off it for years now. A country whose press is rated as less free by independent "Reporters Without Borders" than all of the other first world nations can hardly claim to have more freedom of speech.
Your president just threatened jail time to a reporter that was invited into the Whitehouse … it doesn't get any worse than that.
On the measurable metrics of what constitutes "individual freedoms", the U.S. is well behind every other developed and first world country.
Europe and others place a higher value on other freedoms than merely being able to threaten others with bodily harm without some punishment.
Try again, you're simply repeating a false mantra.

Am I to take it you think child pornography is free speech? Or that we ought to have the right to commit reckless endangerment by speaking stuff liable to panic someone? Slander or Libel or defamation of character (true or not is irrelevant, the relevancy is that it damages one's reputation in realms not directly related to their job). How about harassing speech in the work place? Or bullying speech in schools? Seems silly to interpret the First Amendment this broadly. Or it can show how the First Amendment needs to be updated. Take your pick.
Oh, here's one, how about someone with a Christmas posters in their yard in plain public view of two reindeers humping, or a naked Santa and naked Mrs. Kringel doing the same?
There's plenty of reasons not to be a free speech fundame - uhhh -- absolutist.
^^^^^^^^^We already have laws against Child Pornography. Jeez. I love how the LEFT always argues in ABSURD EXTREMES to try to demonize the other side. Wow, how dishonest.

Yep. The USA ranks #48, about the same level as Senegal and Romania. It's not even the freest in the Americas (That would be Jamaica at 8th worldwide and Costa Rica at 10th. Canada, Trinidad & Tobago, Surname, Uruguay, and Chile all rank higher).
As usual when it comes to human well-being categories, the Nordic Countries rank at the top of the list, followed by New Zealand, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Ireland.
Yet we spend more per student than any other country. Where does it go? TEACHER'S UNIONS, wages, benefits and PENSIONS for LIFE.
