Well, the big problem here is that so-called "Communism" never really existed anywhere except in complete situations of chaos, war, poverty, etc. where it was looked at as a way of "getting out" of the present situation.

In more rural areas (Vietnam) it was looked at as a antidote for what they KNEW didn't work - Capitalism (Colonialism is Capitalism).

Israel is sorta communist...was moreo before. By the definition, a lot of the rich oil states are also.....who owns the big refineries there (answer: The Kingdom - therefore Communists)......

The closest we can really get is "Socialism" which some Euro countries practiced on a limited scale. They might own railways and have had a hand in some industries, but this was just as much because there was a .1% who were both government and industry...you know, like we have HERE!

So, no, nothing rhymes.

The question should be rephrased as "Which states are attempting to build a sustainable economy?" - and it would be closer to the mark. You see - the American and Colonial and Imperialist Ways are all about making SOMEONE ELSE pay for the present. That is what debt and deficit and the failure to balance things is.

When I see a thread here complaining about CA. gas tax going up I think "yeah, that's what other states should do to rebuild our infrastructure" whereas many of you probably think "hey, I want MY money and I want other free money from my kids and grandkids" (debt and deficit).

The only truism here is another example (OP) of living in backwards world. You are showing me a pile of Gold and telling me it is poo. Then you show me poo and tell me it is Gold (the "free" states in your opinion).

Sorry, doesn't compute and never will because it is simply untrue. I don't buy BS, having been in most every form of business for 45 years. You have to pay enough for the employees to feed their families. Yep.

Commie?

What a ridiculous notion.

Totalitarian?

Bama and Mizzou have made some big moves in that direction recently.

None.

Making your own definition of communist does not make it true.

Yet they display elements of both socialism and communism and move further and further towards them. But that's OK.

No, by definition communism is stateless.

Sorry.

You understand this by your further explanation of state characters utilizing the term.

Marx was quite clear on his philosophy. The state (small s) of communism is stateless.

Social democracy does not equal socialism or communism.

Had the question been "Which state has trended the furthest toward social democracy", there would have been an answer. IMHO CA tho Hawaii and Washington seem to be trending strongly that way.

California is moving towards the first THIRD WORLD STATE in the country.......thanks to leftist policies......

Do you mean Democratic Socialism? It is an oxymoron as socialism by NATURE forces the circumstances upon you. You have no choice nor say. There is no "voting" on a matter through referendum.

None, as that's like asking everyone how many steps they took today, and claiming the person who took the most has moved to the moon.

You could take giant leaps towards socialism (which we haven't done), and still never near what actual Communism is.

I haven't heard of any US state moving towards workers owning the means of production.
