No “witch hunt” means to hunt witches
The problem is that witches who can really perform magic and circumvent the laws of science really don’t exist
So “a witch hunt” has come to describe hunting for something that doesn’t exist where proof CANNOT be found
It doesn’t mean that if a full and fair investigation into a “perceived” crime/questionable activity or conspiracy took place by credible investigators there would be no evidence to support the hypothesis under examination
The McCarthy Hearings were ‘witch hunts” because McCarthy and Roy Cohn (Trump’s first mentor) cared nothing for FACTS or used EVIDENCE to tarnish/punish their victims
They pressured people to lie and give opinions — not facts—to create a false narrative...
Calling something a “witch hunt” tries to cloak the person/topic with the innocence of those McCarthy damaged when there was no Communist insurgency or threat to overthrow the US government—
McCarthy was a classic example of “fake news”
And Cohn showed Trump all about how to achieve fake news status for his claims
You expect a crime must be in full, inviolate evidence before it can be investigated
If it were that obvious there would be little need to really “investigate”
You would only need to collect the obvious information
Crimes that simple to solve rarely happen in political situations
Even a simple purse snatching or running a stop light can be open to misleading information
