I agree they did the right thing by saving a life.
It doesn't discount the truth the he was trying to break the law with his family. Should I just forget about the legal aspect just because he almost died?

How sad that it seems noteworthy to the OP that the people at the border behaved like decent human beings and administered life saving procedures to save the life of a 13 year old child. Wow, that's one hell of a low bar you have there, OP.
I bet many here would have been happier if border patrol had left this 13 year old "lawbreaker" to die The second poster in this thread pretty much affirmed it.
That's wonderful. If any human is in imminent danger, they should be helped...but then humanely send them back unless they have legal status.
