Do you know why big banks needed bailing out? Because leftists like you wanted to spread the wealth around by making home ownership a reality for millions of people who had no capacity or intention of paying back a home mortgage. It was part of the Community Reinvestment Act.
MEH - not buying your story.
I lived in an upper middle class neighborhood -- lots of conservatives (sure some liberals but it was Georgia)......They bought their houses & then took the lines of credit the banks offered up and put in those theater rooms, bought those fancy cars, took those fancy vacations. Crash came and they lost their jobs and they were furious their house wasn't worth what they owed.
Conservatives spent more than they should on homes.
Stop the baloney stories to justify your hatred and anger.

I am not supportive of political extemists on the left or right, and going out to discuss politics with a bunch of protestors with signs is not usually a good idea.
However tbf, I think what the left mean by the rather strange democratic socialism label is basically the Nordic Model of social democracy, which is not socialism in it's truest sense, although such countries generally have higher rates of taxation and tend to have greater wealth distribution and social safety nets.
WE ARE FORCED TO PAY INTO MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY. I want my money back!
Not according to the law.
No law compels participation and no law punishes non participants.
“The Social Security Act does not require an individual to have a Social Security Number (SSN) to live and work within the United States, nor does it require an SSN simply for the purpose of having one...”
- - - The Social Security Administration
It has long been law that there is no legal right to Social Security. In two important cases, Helvering v. Davis and Flemming v. Nestor, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Social Security taxes are simply taxes and convey no property or contractual rights to Social Security benefits. They are at the sole discretion of Congress.
In the Declaration of Independence, we learn that government has two jobs:
1) Secure endowed rights, and
2) Govern those who consent.
CAVEAT - consent waives job #1.
All socialism (taking from one to give to another) / compulsory charity / theft by government comes from job #2, via consent granted by enrolling into FICA. No law compels participation. No law punishes non participants.

Bankers made bad loans, not the liberals. 4 presidents from both parties encouraged more home ownership but it was the banks who made the loans.
To give us an idea of your stance on the issue what is your definition of Socialism?
