After it looked like the vote was 13-13, Assemblyman Nader Sayegh seems to have indicated to the chairman that he wanted to talk to him. My guess is he thought it was a safe passage out of committee so he would have the luxury of voting no and have “proof” for his constituents he didn’t always vote the party line. He is in a somewhat conservative district. He went up they had a short whisper and then he was allowed to change his vote. His explanation was credible enough to indicate he wasn’t pressured into changing his vote. I totally get being torn on this issue, I find myself in the same position, but it’s one where ultimately you have to err on public safety.
It was passed legally, he’s allowed to change his mind before it becomes official. No one strong armed him.
