Why do I get the feeling that people are mining the past to engage in virtue signaling?

This is very true. You can go to any era of the past and find racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. The Left is now using historical people, paintings, murals, and monuments to virtue signal using today's social morays.

However, this guy is/was an avowed Communist, and committed Far Leftist, and activist. Now let him reap what he sowed. Karma is a *****.

Obviously the people running the festival feel otherwise. Their festival, their choice.

Of course it is. Nobody is arguing that the festival should be compelled to invite him. The discussion is entirely about the merits of the decision, not whether or not they have the right to make it.

It's incredible how many times some version of this extremely lame "It's their choice!" remark comes up in threads here...

Not more taxes.
Just redirecting tax money from the useless rich ;to the working poor...which is the majority of the country....which is where tax dollars SHOULD be focussed.
No one beats a robin hood.
Especially a sheriff of Nottingham.
Trump is such an idiot.

Well, with no insight into the drivers - personal/moral, business or otherwise - that led to the decision, what sort of intelligent discussion can be had about the merits of the decision?

Talk about lame...

Did they not attribute it to the 1970 incident? As far as 1970 and parental discipline and supervision goes, remember, at Kent State, one of the persons crying over a shot protester was a 14 year old runaway. Permissiveness that was routine then would be fodder for a CPS report now.

Was it a moral issue they took with the "incident" or was it a business concern over loss of sponsorship or other monetary concern? That's my point.

We have no idea.

This is a non-story about a rinky-dink festival concerning a has-been folk singer. Tempest in a teapot.
