While the MSM bleats on day after day about the plight of illegal aliens in detention, they have pretty much blacked out the news that Trump's First Step initiative, now the law, is reuniting many families with family members jailed for petty crimes such as minor drug possession.

Thousands of ex-prisoners to reunite with their families this month as part of First Step Act

I've always said that people should not be jailed for Drug addiction. Democrats just as Joe Biden created laws that did just that.

(this was another campaign promise kept by Trump)

Good, but if they relapse, back to the slammer.

These are the families separated by Joe Biden? I thought he was against that.

He was author of the crime bill passed that locked up 10s of 1000s of African American men.

I agree, but we still have a HUGE problem with the courts in how they handle 'drug dealers', majority of the small time dealers they arrest, are just selling in order to feed their own addiction, they are not in the game to get rich.

In the eyes of the court and law enforcement, they guy selling dope part time in order to fund his habit, and the buy who moves MAJOR weight around the country....both are viewed exactly the same, as drug dealers...and they throw the book at them!

They need to differentiate between the two types imo and recognize the small time dealer is only doing it because they are addicts themselves.

From the days when I was using, once you got up to the mid level dealers, those guys didnt use drugs at all, they are also the ones who are RARELY caught, since they are so well insulated on both sides, they do not make bad decisions based on addictions, so that makes them almost impossible to catch.

Well, good new for now seeing as how the media likes to spin what Trump says/does. Of course, given how immature he acts at times, sometimes the spinning is potentially justified.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it seems that some people love (and will continue to love) Trump no matter what he does, and some people hate (and will continue to hate) Trump no matter what he does.

I don't agree with either "side" of those who do this.

Let me guess . . . you changed your mind on this when opioids started to be abused by white people.

Yeah, but they are American citizens, not criminal aliens. Dems don't care about them.
