This is a no win situation. If the United States sits by and lets diplomacy work - Iran will become a nuclear power and at some point attack Israel. At that point the US will be blamed for doing nothing. If we take action now to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power then we will suffer in the eyes of the world as a war monger.
Iran hates the US, our allies and especially Israel. They are in my opinion a larger threat than Iraq ever was. Unfortunately - the mishandled war in Iraq has cost the US credibility in the region. That said - I think taking out Saddam was the right thing to do...it just wan't done well. A well thought out strike the like of Regan's strike on Lybia are what we need on Iran.
Unfortunately - terrorists are not logical. Since they don't mind dieing for their cause - going to war with them is not necessarily a deterant. Sadly - if we strike Iran (which is inevitable to keep world peace) thousands of innocent people will die in the process.
Consider the source--"a leading member of America’s Jewish community." Do you really think that person has insight into our nation's military planning? No, it is somone pushing an agenda.
As for Iran, consider things from their point of view. Being situated between Iraq and Afghanistan, both invaded and occupied by the US, has to make them nervous. Of course, they are looking for ways to defend themselves, and we interpret that as a threat. It very well may be, but what would you expect a country to do in their situation? Ahmadinejad is a hard read, in some circumstances he seems to be under control and others he is a loose cannon. That makes us (US) nervous.
It is like two kids facing off for a fight on the playground. Both are nervous and neither really wants a fight, but they are not sure what the other is thinking so each is trying to "best guess" the situation and act accordingly. That may end up with one cold-cocking the other, which means a brawl could entail; or they might just continue to bully each other without really fighting, secretly being relieved that the other didn't throw a punch. It is hard to predict...
Because Iran signed a treaty which allows them to use nuclear weapons for peaceful purposes?
Because American-Jewry and AIPAC lobbyists tell us too?
Because Israel, which has nuclear weapons, wants us too?
There is absolutely no reason to war Iran. Not only are they not trying to develop nuclear weapons nor is there any proof of, this nonsense is following the same script as the Iraq war.
It seems the ultra-powerful Jewish lobbyist organizations in this country are pushing us to get into another war for Israel and it's ridiculous.
Iran isn't a threat and is not going to be a threat. It seems the more uneducated and ignorant fall for the propaganda.
Maybe we wouldn't be hated in the Middle East if we financed Israel's illegal annexation and occupation where they bomb, steal, and murder Palestinian children and families. (Of course Israel shreiks and screams when the downtrodden masses fight back with bottle-rockets and whatever other third world technology they can get).
How many more Americans must fight and die for Israel and Jewish-lobbyist organizations?
I think it is telling that so often those that put on the uniform and actually served our country see things quite differently than those that have not.....
Some of these right-wingers have just plain played too many video games. Always looking for the next evil empire to destroy. This is about as far as the mentality seems to go...
Ahhh Veltz, you had me until the whole "america is run by jews" thing...
Iran has a right to develop nuclear energy...it's none of our business. Unless Iran actually attacks the continental US there is no reason that we should attack them. I'm seeing something from the past...it's called the Gulf of Tonkin...and it looks like it might happen again.
