The Gadsden to me represents the principals our country was founded on and gives a big up your's to any who wish to oppress us.
I like it. Especially my Naval version with the 13 red and white stripes and the stretched out snake. And I love the caption. Don't Tread On ME. Kinda says it all. Flying astern on a warship it looks massive cool. Especially if you know what it symbolizes.

And I find it very interesting that the founding fathers thought the Timber Rattlesnake was a good metaphor for the US colonies. Cool. Won't bother you unless you step on me...then watch out.

We both agree to that but this line of discussion started out with the idea that Trump is hurting what the American flag stands for when as president he says what he says.
As president he is suppose to uphold the ideas the American flag stands for and IMO he is not. The ideas behind the American flag would allow him to disagree with "the other side". He can say they are wrong. Presidents have always done that. (and unfortunately they also have lied to us over and over) but to tell those he disagree's with that they should go back to their countries (which is an oxymoron as they are already in their country) is not what it stands for.

We have also likely got our lines crossed. I noted that the Gadsden flag was in no way racist but unfortunately, many who fly it are.

Gadsden flag is badass. It is a libertarian, anti-authoritarian, freedom promoting symbol, and it is for anyone and everyone who believes in those things - the opposite of bigotry. If there is anyone who might get bristled by it, that would be the government, police, etc. I wouldn't put a decal of one on my car because don't need any more tickets.

Christopher Gadsden, the man that created it was an active and participatory character in the Trans Atlantic slave trade. Arguably one of the worst atrocities in human history. The wharf he constructed Gadsden's wharf was built to bring in slaves who were being held in quarantine on a nearby island. The fact that his flag has come to symbolize liberty, anti-authority and freedom is so ironic and idiotic that its almost beyond human comprehension. If Gadsden's flag represents anything, its the unparalleled hypocrisy and bulls**t that this nation was founded on.
