The only people revising history are those trying to make excuses for the man!!
He was judged by his peers. You are not one of them.

So what he's still a loser, no matter what you feel about it. I get a strong feeling you are one of those phony patriots who celebrated America and the loser Confederates.

He was a product of his times. He was very socially conservative as was the the entire culture of the country during the Victorian era...there were very rigid racial and social hierarchies both North and South. He was a slave owner and reports show he could be brutal in his discipline of his slaves, so he is tainted with that brutal institution and always will be as are the slave states from that era. His darkest action during the Civil War was when his Army invaded Pennsylvania which resulted in a disaster for him at Gettysburg...he had his men capture escaped and freed slaves in that area and had them shipped back south into slavery. That was just cruel. But so was the trail of tears and the brutality of Manifest Destiny during that century. So hero...Lee was not.

He was a brilliant military commander and respected by his peers both north and south. I agree the south's secession was traitorous but the country was not clearly defined prior to the Civil War as it is today. A southern historian pointed out that prior to the Civil War the United States was considered plural...as in "the US are a collection of colonies that fought for their independence"....after the civil war the US was considered singular as in "the US is a country consisting of 50 states. So we went from an...Are...to an...Is. The most noble thing Lee did during the war was not follow Jefferson Davis orders to continue to wage Guerrilla warfare. The war was fought, he recognized The South had lost and urged his men to lay down their arms and be loyal citizens of the US. That was very very significant.

In the end he was flawed human being of his day faced with very difficult decisions.

You probably should read the third paragraph from the last of this.
