Thompson’s been open about her character being bisexual in the Marvel movies, as she is in the comics, so the reveal isn’t out of the blue. However, her bisexuality hasn’t been explicitly addressed in the movies thus far, and a previous scene in “Thor: Ragnarok” showing she had a female lover didn’t end up making the final cut.
In addition to Valkyrie, more ***** characters are said to be on the way for Marvel, with reports that the upcoming movie “The Eternals,” which opens before “Thor: Love and Thunder,” had a casting call for a gay hero.
If you didn't catch she had a girlfriend who was also a Valkyrie, you didn't watch the film. That was why she was a drunk in the film. Also gay characters have long been in the comics North Star was written to be gay when he first debuted in the 1970's. Many X-Men were gay, Hulkling, a Skrull was gay and I think trans. It is just the movies wanting to be in line with the comics.
I hate to nitpick, but NorthStar didnt come out until the 1990's
Both DC and Marvel have had closeted characters for decades, both with characters who came out in the 1990's
Alpha Flight volume 1 #106 released 1992.
The character has existed and been consistent since their 1979 creation however in X-Men volume 1 #120.
Its still 27 years ago, and comic book characters have huge detailed biographies not published in comic books, I'd suspect NorthStar was gay from day 1.
Northstar, Marvel character from Alpha-Flight came out as gay in 1992. The writer had been writing him as closeted gay for many years before that. Apparently that doesn't count?

And 1/4 century for Jessie Drake.
Yes, but "existed" isnt the same as out and gay, and that was my point.

No, it doesnt. At least in the context of the O.P.
If the character had actually been written as closeted, like having secret relationships that the other characters in the comics didnt know about, then yes, it would count. But the character simply was mentioned and sexuality never brought up.
