What I was saying above was that there is more than one carbine version. To me, for my choices, what a carbine means is ..... the 16 inch barrel.
Agreed. Your shooting with the sling is a good method to enhance stability and accuracy. Bench rested, my Colt carbine shoots sub MOA, stock, as it came from the factory. I see no reason to mess with it.

If you travel in a car for a long distance as well, it is a good idea.
I live across the road from State Game Lands and see black bear all the time. Sometimes mothers with cubs. We've taken to putting bleach in our garbage or they will overturn it and strew it all over.

So you are saying I should never leave my house without a gun?

I think every regular here knows how you feel about guns. So why do you continue to post in threads about guns? You hate them. You’ve articulated this many times here. We get it. Nobody is forcing you to own one and nobody is forcing you to even converse about them.

I am surprised at the number of people we encounter who are totally unprepared. Often we end up giving them water and a spare sweatshirt. People think the wilderness is like the Disney Animal Kingdom where there will be bathrooms and snack shops.

PS- Do you carry a "bivy stick" or satellite phone? We like the Bivy stick, as you can activate it for a few days at a time.
We attended a bear training class at Glacier NP a few years back. The first thing they did was pass around a stuffed bear paw. Ha! Once you’ve held one you know you aren’t winning any pugilist matches with one.

They told us that small caliber guns are no match for a grizzly bear and to carry bear spray on one side and a gun - preferably a large caliber - on the other side. You first shoot bear spray and begin a hasty retreat then follow up with the gun only if necessary. If you shoot a bear in Glacier you’re getting fined whether it was an emergency or not.

We spent two full weeks in Glacier and saw grizzlies every single day we were there. Place was lousy with them! We learned to make a LOT of noise while out hiking.

That bear class was very informative and interesting.

Because some of you make it sound like there is some kind of duty (under the 2nd Amendment?) to own a gun, or you deserve what you get if you don't.

120 guns per 100 people in the US

Next highest rate is in Yemen. 40 per 100.

We live in a war zone.

Hooray guns!!!

It’s unfortunate that some people put off that vibe but Jo, I assure you that most gun owners do not care of you own a gun or not. It’s inconsequential to us.

What gets tiring is when us gun owners attempt to have a conversation here about guns and it gets positively hammered with snark by anti-gun people who simply cannot tolerate people even talking about them without interrupting them with insulting commentary. Look at the posts in this thread alone!

In our local club it's higher than 1-5. LOL. And I love it. Probably 1-3 at our competitions now. And they are top shelf shooters.
