Whether it is for protection or just for fun, more women are learning to shoot and also buy their own guns. A recent survey shows one in every five women own a gun.
Spending time at the shooting range, it's not just for guys. Women are picking up guns for safety — but that's not the only reason.
"It's just a social fun thing we can go out to dinner afterwards," said Nancy Wilson, Triangle Shooting Academy. "We're staying connected on facebook as well. The drive is more you want to be together and learn together."

Let the anti-gun crowd let that sink in!!

You're damn skippy.

I live in rattlesnake, black and brown bear, mountain lion territory, and hike alone with my dog often - and I have different firearms appropriate for different environments and potential threats. I also carry bear spray and have had a Ka-bar attached to my pack for many years - last line of defense against four legged (or two legged) critters intent on doing harm to me and mine.

There are womens only firearms training and mentoring groups that meet and train regularly. There are armed staff in all the schools and signs outside each campus warning of same.

I am an avid supporter of any law abiding citizen (regardless of gender) carrying.

Everyone should learn to protect themselves with a firearm. Lots of savage people out there looking to do harm. Have multiple friends who have been victims of robberies/assaults who thought it would "never happen to them."

Exercise your rights, get a firearm. Take some training courses with your local police/sheriff's department or a well-known private instructor. Be responsible. Get a concealed carry once you feel comfortable with the firearm and have read up on self-defense laws in your state.

I own your basic three: 30:06, 12ga o/u, and a Springfield XD-9 subcompact.

Shooting is fun.

And four out of five women do not. So 80% of women don't feel the need to own a gun. Those are some big numbers.

Just keeping it real.

Statistically, guns are much safer in the hands of a woman than in a man's hands.

Makes me change my mind somewhat. Since white men are by far the largest perpetrators of gun violence, maybe our gun laws should simply ban them from owning guns.

It doesn't seem to say anything about who did the survey, to whom, or how, so I'm not going to take it too seriously. But it should drive anyone crazy who knows about statistics of gun accidents, and it should drive anyone crazy who thinks it's horrible that women feel so unsafe - under a president who supposedly was going to make us safer.

You betcha!!!

We also need to get National CCW Reciprocity. I can't carry in NY, NJ, (Hell, the entire upper east coast), IL, WI, MN, OR and WA. Also, forget about DC.

Makes it hard to plan a trip
