Slaughterhouse owner who used illegal immigrants sentenced to 18 months in federal prison

The owner of a Bean Station slaughterhouse who admitted paying illegal immigrants in cash for years to avoid federal payroll obligations was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison.

James Brantley pleaded guilty last year in U.S. District Court in Greeneville to counts of failing to collect and pay federal employment taxes, wire fraud and hiring unauthorized aliens.

...
He had already paid restitution to the U.S. government totaling $1,423,588 for years in which he failed to pay employment and workers compensation taxes for his employees.

...
The judge also praised Brantley for helping the government by providing background information on the case and by providing information that helped in the prosecution of two employees who recruited and hired undocumented workers to work at the slaughterhouse.

...
When pressed by the judge, Brantley said about 75 percent of his 100 or so employees were illegal residents on the day federal authorities raided it in April 2018.

This is just the kind thing we need to do.

The Chamber of Commerce would not like this approach, but it would be highly effective.

When I saw the thread name I thought to myself "this won't be a well known dues (to pols) paying company"....and sure enough!

The real abusers pay through payroll or hire 3rd parties to do the dirty work....they are names you know and love like Tyson Foods, etc.

They never go to jail. They have been caught time and time again and they appeal for years and usually win...and eventually may pay a tiny fine and not admit guilt.

But it's always great to get the little guy...the one who didn't buy a special table at the Pols fund raiser.

Also, if he paid the taxes he wouldn't be seeing any jail. Most illegals end up paying all their taxes....although not into their own accounts. Free money. For us.

So you get cheap meat (I don't eat the stuff) and extra taxes.

Yet, the pro-illegals claim that the employers never get caught and punished.

accept this is so rare that it is actually talked about on an online political forum. It should be so common that no one would bother discussing it. And just so you don't go assuming i am pro-illegal I am firmly against illegal immigration.

" Business Owner Sentenced to 18 Months for Hiring Unauthorized Aliens," but, but, but Trump is NOT going after business owners who hire illegals as we are told over and over by some dems with TDS on here!

so you are satisfied if Trump closes down one business as an example?

For you it isn't about shutting down the source of employment but just trying to make sure you can hurl the TDS insult?

Funny.

For me -- it is about freak'n time. The first thing Trump should have done when he became President two and a half years ago was come down hard on employers, fix e-verify. The fact he got this one guy -- WTG -- one down how many more to go?
