You kind of need a phone and internet in today’s store world. Not for entertainment but because the world operates on that now. Id be screwed from my job without it. Sending projects with google drive and staying in contact with people I work with. Its a tool.

There are little financial tricks that smart people learn:

1. Max out your 401K
2. Buy the smallest house in a really nice neighborhood for your first home
3. Don't buy depreciating assets like new cars
4. Use credit cards for emergencies only.

These are just a few tricks that help folks get ahead....
I pretty much did everything on the list. I am 56, been debt free for at least 11 years./

Life is all about choices. The only thing I did differently is #3. I always buy new and keep them forever..

That's the problem, these people don't have the slightest idea how to prioritize their spending. They gave no concept of the difference between needs and wants, necessary items and luxuries. Me, I'm proud of the fact that I am debt-free and pay all my bills in full every month. I also lead a very low-key lifestyle that allows me to sock away money into savings every payday.

I'm curious how many people even know who "the Joneses" are that that term refers to.

I would not even consider hiring someone who didn’t have a smartphone and internet access. Those things are not luxuries, they’re essential to functionality in today’s world. Much like pants, and a toothbrush.

Why??? No job I've ever had required me to have those things, and if one did, they'd be the ones paying for it. Thankfully my employer mind their own business in that regard.
