Now I dont think the picture painted by the article applies to all white men who own guns but it does apply to the specific group described in the article.
When I see some gun lover, in places like this forum, expressing fear as the reason they want guns ( especially automatic, multiple round weapons), I have to wonder if they are living in America or some Mid East country, where you have to fight for your life every day. How the Hell do these people function ?
In a little while, I will be going out for the day. I will get in my car, drive to multiple stores, mingle among a lot of other shoppers, and never, ever, do I feel threatened enough that I miss having one of my pistols strapped to my side. I think these gun nuts have been playing way too many video games, or they have some deep seated insecurities that even carrying a cannon would not cure.

If you have lived during the time of the American Revolution in the US colonies, and you fully obeyed the British monarchy...you wouldnt have had any problems or needed a weapon either!
